#NAMServes DISASTER RELIEF PROJECT!
DISASTER RELIEF PROJECT
School supplies and children’s books
for Texas, Louisiana and Florida area schools, shelters and children in need!
Our nation has experienced two of the largest Hurricanes to hit the US coast. Hurricane Harvey and Irma brought a recored amount of rain which displayed thousands and thousands of people from their homes. Hundreds of schools and libraries are a complete loss.So many of you have reached out to us asking "How can we help". We are asking our NAMily from around the nation to join with us to help children in need. Whether you are a Queen, Contestant or even a NAM Enthusiast, we are challenging you to collect and send school supplies and children's book to the NAM National Office. These will then be distributed to those that directly need it to assist with their work with children.

Q & A
Q: Where do I send donations?
A: Please send all items to:
NAMserves
5821 W Sam Houston Pkwy N, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77041
Phone: 281-496-9000
That is the address of the National American Miss national office. The office is open during regular office hours, Monday through Friday. All major delivery services deliver each weekday to the office. Examples include, but are not limited to, the US Postal Service, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. The immediate area in which the National American Miss office is located was completely spared of flooding. The office is located on a major highway and all deliveries are back to normal.
Q: Do I need to notify anyone that I am sending donated items, or do I need to include anything in the box(es)?
A: When you are ready to send donated items, please complete this online submission form. You will immediately receive a reply email from our system. Please print out the reply email and include a copy of it in each envelope, pack or box that you are sending.
Please note that there is no request in the online form for a credit card. There are no monetary donations involved in this project.
When you complete the online submission form we are instantly notified. Through the form, you are giving us an idea of what items you are sending. That advance notice will help us speedily get the items received, organized and placed with the school, shelter, or other recipient that is most in need of the items that you are sending.
You do not need to submit a different online submission form for each envelope, pack or box. Just include a printed copy of your one email auto-confirmation in each package that you send.
Q: What items are appropriate to donate?
A: There are two categories of items for this project: School Supplies and Children’s Books. If you have items that fit in any way into those categories, that are in new or good condition, then that is exactly what we are looking for.
School Supplies. Examples include: Pencils, pens, crayons, erasers, hand sanitizer, backpacks, markers, colored pencils, rulers, folders, scissors, dry erase markers, spiral notebooks, composition books, art supplies, craft supplies, tissues, permanent markers, tape, glue sticks, pencil boxes, binders, pocket folders, index cards, board games, flash cards, staplers, and loose leaf paper. There may be other items that you may feel would be helpful. If an item is normally used in a classroom, then it is needed.
Children’s Books: All grade levels of books are needed. Pre-K through 12th grade.
Q: Is there a minimum, or maximum, of donated items that I should send?
A: There is no minimum. One item is as meaningful as a hundred.
Every single pencil and item is needed. Many schools in the area are completely wiped clean of all supplies and books. Whatever you feel led to send is just right.
As for a maximum, there is no maximum. We do ask that you email us (NAMserves@gmail.com), prior to shipping, if you have a shipment that exceeds the volume of what would fit in a normal pickup truck. For some of the large scale shipments, we may coordinate that the shipment go directly to the appropriate school or school district building.
The NAM office has more than 5,000 square feet of warehouse space, a pallet jack, and a grade-level loading dock. Our facility was built for serving NAM events, including the shipment of large audio-visual devices and a host of supplies to the pageants. We feel blessed to use these resources for this vital project. Our staff is eager to get to the work of receiving and distributing your donations.
Q: Can I collect items at my school, place of worship, from family, friends, or other places?
A: Absolutely! Be creative! If you decide to set up a table, for example, we recommend that you make a bold clear sign that boldly posts these words
DISASTER RELIEF PROJECT
Please donate school supplies and children’s books
All donated items will be sent to Houston
That really says it all. At a glance, folks will know what to do. As always, you should get permission from your parent or guardian, as well as the appropriate authority. For example, if you would like to include your classroom in the collection effort, then you must receive permission from your teacher.
Ideas include a table at your street corner (be safe!), in front of an office supply store, or in front of a book store. It is up to you and your imagination! Always work closely with your parent or guardian on this project. And get permission from the school, store, or appropriate authority if you set up on their property.
Q: Can I send food, clothing, or monetary donations to the NAMserves project?
A: Please do not send these items, they are beyond the scope of this project. If you would like to donate money for flood relief, we recommend the JJ Watt Houston Flood Relief Fund (http://jjwfoundation.org)
Q: Do I have to be a participant in NAM to participate in this project?
A: Anyone and everyone is invited to participate in this worthy project. The goal is that through this project a total of $25,000 in school supplies and children’s books are distributed. It will take an army of people across the country working together to achieve this goal. YOU are in the lead!
Q: What is the deadline?
A: We ask that donated items be sent by Wednesday, October 4. Normally, all Houston area schools are in session by Labor Day at the latest. This is back to school time! Classrooms full of children need our help now.
Q: Is it OK for me to just go online and order school supplies or books to be sent directly to the NAMserves project?
A: Yes, that works great. And there are a number of websites that offer free shipping. Plus, at this time of year, there are many specials on back-to-school supplies. If you do send items this way, please still complete the online submission form so that we will stay organized and be aware of what is being sent.
Q: Can I send donated items more than one time?
A: Absolutely! There is no need for you to send everything at once. As you have collected one or more items, please feel free to send them as you can. We ask that you do fill out a different online submission form for each time you send something.
Q: If I am a participant in this year’s national pageant activities in California, can I use my collection efforts toward my NAM Community Service project requirement?
A: Absolutely! When you fill in and submit your online submission form, you will automatically receive a confirmation email directly from NAM. That will serve as your documentation.
