Tiffany: How did you get involved in National American Miss?

Bernice: I was introduced and encouraged by former Florida state titleholder's Elizabeth Tran and Kirsten Perry.

Tiffany: How did you prepare for the National Pageant?

Bernice: I practiced my introduction in the car and my mom asked me some questions for interview.

Tiffany: What is the best advice you have ever received?

Bernice: Be yourself, stay positive and smile with your heart are the best advices I ever had.

Tiffany: What quote, motto or scripture best descries you?

Bernice: Her smiles is contagious!

Tiffany: What are your plans for the future?

Bernice: I want to be a good student and good dancer. I will be in my first dance competition in March and I hope I will do well.

Tiffany: What activities are you involved in?

Bernice:I am a competitive dancer and member of Teen of Green.

Tiffany: What do you like to do for fun?

Bernice:I like to play with my friends, play video games with Dad, and making accessories (friendship bracelet, hair bows…) with Mom.

Tiffany: What is one item you can’t live without?

Bernice: I can’t live without my sleeping bear. I need her when I go to bed.

Tiffany: Who is your role model?

Bernice: Elizabeth Tran, The 2010 National American Miss Florida Jr.Teen, is my role model because she is smart, kind and beautiful. Also she is the former of Teen go Green.

Tiffany: What is your favorite TV show?

Bernice:My favorite TV Show is Good Luck Charlie because it is so funny. I always watch this show with my Mom and we can’t stop laughing once the show starts.

Tiffany: If you had three wishes what would you wish for?

Bernice: I would wish for no gravity, to travel all over the world and to be straight A student.

Tiffany:If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?

Bernice: I would want want to visit safari in South Africa and watch all the wild animals and take a lots of pictures.

Tiffany:What is your definition of a NAM girl?

Bernice:NAM girl is kind, smart, true, modern, positive and beautiful…..

Tiffany:If you were stranded on a deserted island what three things could you not live with out?

Bernice:The three things that I must have are water, my DS and my sleeping buddy.

Tiffany:What is your most prized possession?

Bernice: The most prized possession for now is my tablet. I play games and do my on line homework every day.

Tiffany:How would your friends describe you?

Bernice: They would say she is cheerful, charismatic and creative.

Tiffany:How are you making a difference in your community?

Bernice: I work with Teen go Green, and I tell everyone how important we need to learn recycling.

Tiffany: If you could go back in time and be at any historical event what would it be?

Bernice:I would like to attend the grand opening for Disney World.

Tiffany:If you could go back in time and meet one person, who would it be and why?

Bernice: I would like to meet Martin Luther King because I did a report about him at school and I got A+. I really proud of myself and would like to tell him about this.

Tiffany:If you could be famous for something, what would you want to be famous for?

Bernice:I would to be a famous dancer.

Tiffany:What is your favorite book? And why?

Bernice:It was the Foot Book by Dr. Suess. It was my first book that I could read out loud by myself when I was five.

Tiffany:Where is your favorite place to shop?

Bernice:My favorite shops are The Children Place, Justice and H & M.

Tiffany:Who or what inspires you most?

Bernice: My Mom and Dad

Tiffany:What have you learned about yourself since competing in pageants?

Bernice: I have learned to work hard to pursue my dream. Also I need to stay focus and concentrate to accomplish my goal.

Tiffany:What advice do you have for future NAM girls?

Bernice:Be yourself and keep smiling!!

Tiffany:What do you plan to do with your title this year?

Bernice:I will try to involve as much community service as I can and tell everyone about National American Miss. Also, I will cherish the time with my all sister queens. I already miss them so much.

Tiffany:Tell me about yourself.

Bernice: I am the only child in my family, and I am a 2^nd grader. I love to laugh and dance. My dream is to perform on Broadway.

Meet The 2011-2012 National All-American Miss Amanda Moreno

Tiffany: How did you get involved in National American Miss?

Amanda:When I was 12, I got a flyer in the mail about NAM. After discussing it with my parents and talking to some girls who had participated in NAM before, we decided that I could go to the pageant to experience the fun and hopefully build my confidence. Little did I know that one flyer would change my life so much.

Tiffany:How did you prepare for the National Pageant?

Amanda:2011 was actually my third time going to NAM Nationals and competing for a National Queen’s title. After placing 1^st Runner Up the previous year in the Teen division, I knew I had to make a choice… I could quit trying or come back even more determined to claim the title. After many prayers, I made the decision to give it another try. I spent the next 10 months dedicated to becoming the best Amanda I could be. I developed my platform (The True Beauty Movement), continued to foster my communication skills and fitness, and shaped myself into the mature young lady I aspire to be. I knew that this year was all in God’s glory since it was His hand that brought me back into competition. Finding solace in that, I prepared for Nationals calmly with the knowledge that whoever was blessed with the title would be the right person for the job.

Tiffany: What is the best advice you have ever received?

Amanda: My parents have always told me, “Just be Amanda and focus on what you can control.” This advice has been helpful in so many aspects of my life – from college to pageantry. Things aren’t always going to go the way we hope, so we have to take things one step at a time – and if we have no control over the matter, let it go. You just have to be the best version of yourself and give the rest to God.

Tiffany:What quote, motto or scripture best describes you?

Amanda:“Be the best you” is something I have always strived to live by. We have to embrace what makes us different, because that’s what makes us beautiful. God has created us each for a special and unique purpose; not to be compared to anyone else. Each day we have to be the best version of ourself and He will take care of the rest.

Tiffany: What are your plans for the future?

Amanda:I am currently studying business at Georgia State University and hope to enter the Disney College Program to begin my journey with the Walt Disney Company. After graduating with honors, I hope to enter corporate America in the arena of marketing, public relations, or management. As I climb the corporate ladder I will continue develop my work as a motivational speaker. I hope to work in many arenas, but all within the arena of communication and service. I would also like to develop a career as a broadcast journalist and television host. I’ve always had a passion for entertainment and public speaking, so finding a way to incorporate all of my interests into a meaningful career is a big goal of mine.

Tiffany: What activities are you involved in?

Amanda: I’m currently a first year business student at Georgia State University taking a full course load, so most of my time is spent in class or preparing for class. On campus, I am involved in the Emerging Leaders Program and the Exploring Leadership Living and Learning Community. I am also the Lead Anchor for the GSU Panther News Television Station. When I’m not hitting the books, you can find me volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, Children’s Miracle Network, the True Beauty Movement, and various other organizations.

Tiffany: What do you like to do for fun?

Amanda:Volunteering is actually a lot of fun for me; especially when I’m working with the younger girls. I’ve also taken a liking to Zumba – it’s a great way to stay healthy and enjoy working out. I travel a lot with my title and volunteer work, so having a relaxing night in my hometown with family or friends is always much appreciated.

Tiffany: What is one item you can’t live without?

Tiffany: Who is your role model?

Amanda: I wouldn’t say I have one specific role model, but I absolutely admire Joel Osteen. He is able to not only do God’s work, but serve as a motivational speaker and author as well. His audience is so widespread and to be able to have that kind of impact on the people is something I strive toward. I also aspire to attain the qualities of both Princess Diana and Julie Andrew; Diana, for her tireless work to improve the quality of life for people around the world, Julie Andrews for her community service and her dedication to perfecting her craft, and both ladies for always going about their work with quiet dignity.

Tiffany: What is your favorite TV show?

Amanda: I’m a really big fan of Wizards of Waverly Place! It’s a great family show, and Selena Gomez is adorable.

Tiffany: What is the biggest misconception about your generation?

Amanda: I think that there are a lot of people out there who think that our generation wants everything handed to them right now, but those people haven’t met NAM girls. Yes, we do like things that come as quickly as requested… but we are aware that life does not always work that way. To achieve great things, you have to set a goal, make a plan, and put in hard work. When you finally achieve your goals… it’s value is that much greater.

Tiffany: If you had three wishes what would you wish for?

Amanda: First and foremost, I would wish for a cure for all cancers. My mother is a breast cancer survivor and one of my best friends is battling a brain tumor right now. Cancer is something that affects everyone in the world, and there is a cure… we just have to find it.

I would also wish for the True Beauty Movement to become more widespread throughout our nation. Discovering true beauty and becoming comfortable in my own skin has been a long journey for me and I want to aid other girls in their journey. If just one girl is able to say that she sees herself as beautiful because of the things she learned from the True Beauty Movement… it’s served its purpose.

My last wish would be to receive a scholarship that would cover my schooling and books from now until I finish Graduate school. I really enjoy academics and want to assure that I attain all the skills necessary to accomplish my goals.

Tiffany: If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?

Amanda: I’m Colombian, so to be able to visit Bogata would be fantastic! I am just in awe of the Hispanic culture and I love being able to explore my roots. Plus, the food is fantastic!

Tiffany: What is your definition of a NAM girl?

Amanda: A NAM girl is a young lady who is the best version of herself. She has dreams… and she is ready to do something about them. She is intelligent, well-spoken, genuine, classy, glamorous and enthusiastic!

Tiffany: If you could be on the cover of any Magazine what would it be?

Amanda:Seventeen Magazine and Forbes! I want to be a young lady that the girls can relate to and a young business person that the parents can respect. These magazines encompass who I am – a National representative, a normal teenager, and a developing business entrepreneur!

Tiffany: If you were stranded on a deserted island what three things could you not live without?

Amanda:I would have to bring a phone that has awesome reception, it keeps me connected and entertained. I would also want to bring my Disney Princess blanket to keep me warm and it’s so soft. Lastly, I’d want to bring my crown box… you never know when an appearance may pop up!

Tiffany: What is your most prized possession?

Amanda: I received a Tiffany & Co. charm bracelet as a High School graduation present from my parents. I have the “Class of 2011” charm and a crown charm is being added next to celebrate winning Nationals. I know I will be able to look at this bracelet for the rest of my life and have it serve as a storybook for my own fairy tale!

Tiffany: How would your friends describe you?

Amanda:I am a total nerd, and my friends will openly tell you that. On the Georgia State campus, most of my time is spent in the library studying or working on papers. I think they would also tell you that I am dependable and energetic. I always try to start my day off right by walking to class with them and keeping a really upbeat personality.

Tiffany: How are you making a difference in your community?

Amanda: As the founder of the True Beauty Movement, I spend a lot of my time dedicated to promoting my platform and making speaking engagements. We have the True Beauty of the Month competition, essay contest, school integration program, and the photo collage. I also serve as a mentor for the Boys & Girls Club of Atlanta working with the Youth Of the Year representatives from the various clubs.

Tiffany:What is your favorite childhood memory?

Amanda:Something most people don’t know is that my family and I travel to Disneyworld each year at Christmas to celebrate Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. We’ve been doing this since I was three years old and it’s become a really great tradition that we still enjoy.

Tiffany:If you could go back in time and be at any historical event what would it be?

Amanda: I am so intrigued by Walt Disney and his work as an imagineer, visionary, and businessman. I would have loved to see his opening of Disneyland and been able to stand in the first row during his speech. I’ve seen the recordings of it, but I can’t imagine what it must have really been like to see it and to have been immersed in the excitement. It’s crazy to think that such a big enterprise all started with a mouse.

Tiffany: If you could go back in time and meet one person, who would it be and why?

Amanda: My Grandpa is someone I knew as a little girl, but he passed away when I was very small. I would love to be able to go back in time and sit down and have a conversation with him about advice for life. I always wonder what my elders would think of where I am today and how they would tell me to improve, and I know my Grandpa would fill that void really well. He was a great man; a veteran, a jeweler, and a volunteer firefighter. If I can be half the person he was… life is good.

Tiffany:If you could be famous for something, what would you want to be famous for?

Amanda: I would want to be famous for being an actress whose philanthropy has helped girls all across our country. Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be involved in the entertainment arena while still being able to give back for the many blessings I have received. The True Beauty Movement is something I plan to continue working with and integrating into my professional life; so that’s where my philanthropic aspect would come in.

Tiffany: What is your favorite book? And why?

Amanda:The Bible is my guiding hand in all my decisions and helps me on whatever journey or challenge I face. I am also a big fan of any Nicholas Sparks or Joel Osteen books!

Tiffany: Where is your favorite place to shop?

Amanda: I am such a bargain shopper – TJMaxx and Marshalls are awesome! I’m able to find boutique and designer clothes at great prices. I am also able to find a lot of really great pageant outfits from there. I don’t feel it’s necessary to spend a lot of money to look stylish. My national interview suit and casual wear modeling outfit were both from Marshalls!

Tiffany: Who is the most influential person in the world now?

Amanda: I wouldn’t say that there is any one “most influential person.” People are influential for different reasons and have different audiences. I know that one of the most influential people in “my” world is Joel Osteen. He helps depict the word of God in terms that are easy to understand and then helps us understand how they relate to our real life situations.

Tiffany: Who or what inspires you most?

Amanda: I’m able to do a lot of service work with younger girls and seeing their face brighten the first time they believe they’re beautiful is just such a humbling experience. The girls I work with are the ones that inspire me to keep going and work even harder day after day. When people tell me that I inspire them, they are actually inspiring me.

Tiffany: What have you learned about yourself since competing in pageants?

Amanda: I’ve learned that when I put my mind to something... I can accomplish it. I’ve worked 7 years to be able to represent this system and this chapter of my life will be filled with many memories, lessons, and laughter. I know that whether it is in the entrepreneurial, business, academic, or pageant arena... I have the strength and ability to accomplish all of my goals. It’s not a matter of “if” my dreams will come true… simply a matter of “when.”

Tiffany: What is your definition of success?

Amanda: To me, success is not a destination… but the journey we embark on when we pursue our dreams and aspirations. Working daily on the journey to be the best version of ourselves… never forgetting where we came from and what originally inspired us… that’s success.

Tiffany: What advice do you have for future NAM girls?

Amanda: Be yourself. The best way to succeed in this system, as well as in life, is to know who you are… and own it. National American Miss is about today’s girl and celebrating who she is right now – there’s something really beautiful about a girl who is comfortable in her own skin.

Tiffany: What do you plan to do with your title this year?

Amanda: There are many exciting plans in the works for my year of service. I have big plans for bringing the True Beauty Movement to the state pageants this summer as well as Nationals next fall. We will be continuing the essay contest, school integration program, photo collage, and our newest program for 2012… True Beauty of the Month. I will continue my community involvement with the Metro Atlanta Boys & Girls Club, Queens for a Cure, Relay for Life, and the Children’s Miracle Network. My year will consist of appearances, service projects, and various speaking engagements on topics pertinent to today’s society. Above all, I want to use my year to help girls all across our country understand that true beauty is being the best version of them. This is a job that I have faithfully worked toward for seven years, and it’s a job I feel more blessed than ever to finally attain.

Tiffany:Tell me about yourself.

Amanda: I am a faithful, passionate, and determined 19 year-old from Conyers, Georgia. I recently completed my first semester at Georgia State University – where I am working toward my goal of becoming a top corporate executive for the Walt Disney Company. My passion lies within the entertainment industry and I am currently signed with East Coast Talent. I am working as the lead anchor for the Georgia State University Television News, and continue to develop my acting skills through various projects. I am an active volunteer in my community and serve as a spokesperson and mentor for the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta. I am blessed to be the founder and director of the “True Beauty Movement,” a nationwide program founded to help girls redefine beauty in their own terms and realize that “true beauty is who you are, not what you look like.”

Tiffany: How did you get involved in National American Miss?

Peyton: I had just finished my reign as the Little Miss for our village. I was sad that it was over because we had sooo much fun! National American Miss’s letter came in the mail and I knew I wanted to do it! My mom was in bed sick so my dad signed me up!

Tiffany:How did you prepare for the National Pageant?

Peyton:I did not practice too much because that makes me VERY nervous. I practiced lots of interview questions with my mom whenever we were just drying my hair or driving or just had some free time. She just asked me questions about myself and I practiced answering without saying the words “like” or “umm.” After open calls, I practiced walking slowly. And for my personal introduction, I liked to practice using my karaoke machine. The microphone on it helped a lot!

Tiffany:What is the best advice you have ever received?

Peyton:The best advice I have ever received is a common one. My mom has always told me to be myself, not the person next to me. I am great just the way I am! Of course, like everyone, I have faults and imperfections, but they are what makes me who I am. I can always work toward improving anything, but I can’t change who I am.

Tiffany:What quote , motto or scripture best describes you?

Peyton:The quote that best describes me is “I may have a small voice, but I know how to use a megaphone!” I love to talk and talk and talk! My favorite place to do this is on stage with a microphone in my hand!!

Tiffany:What are your plans for the future?

Peyton:I really want to be an author who writes children’s books. I love to read and go on all the adventures that books take me on and I want to do that for kids.

Tiffany: What activities are you involved in?

Peyton: I am involved in jazz, ballet, basketball, softball, Project Change (like a student council at school), Girl Scouts and I play the viola.

Tiffany:What do you like to do for fun?

Peyton: I love to just be with my friends! We can play barbies, house, school, or anything! I just really love to be with my friends.

Tiffany:What is one item you can’t live without?

Peyton:One item, or quite a few of them actually, that I cannot live without are my stuffed animals. They have to surround me when I am sleeping. It is so hard to travel when I can only bring one or two of them!

Tiffany:Who is your rolemodel?

Peyton:My mom is my role model. She is so awesome! She teaches during the day and helps me with whatever me or my brothers need when she gets home. She is a great cook and a good reader. I love when we snuggle up and she reads to me.

Tiffany:What is your favorite TV show?

Peyton:My favorite TV show is Dance Moms! I love that show because I take dance and I think the dancers are so incredible. The mom drama can sometimes be silly but I really like watching all of the awesome places that they get to compete at and the cool things that they get to do.

Tiffany:If you had three wishes what would you wish for?

Peyton:If I had three wishes, I would wish for everyone to support Book Worm Angels to help kids read, all wars to end, and for my dog to be able to tell me what he is thinking when we play together!

Tiffany:If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?

Peyton:If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go to Paris. I think I would love to go there! My mom and I love to shop and Paris has the best shopping in the world! The Paris hotel in Las Vegas was my favorite hotel! We went up in the Eiffel Tower which looks just like the one in Paris.

Tiffany:What is your definition of a NAM girl?

Peyton:I think a NAM girl is one that is herself and confident. Those are the two most important qualities for girls that are my age. If you cannot be yourself, then you could fall into the wrong group or not have real friends who love you for who you are. Also, being confident carries over to everything you do in life. From dealing with you teachers and coaches, to meeting new people you need to be confident in who you are. I think the NAM girls have so much to offer and I feel so honored to be a part of such an amazing group of young ladies!

Tiffany: If you were stranded on a deserted island what three things could you not live with out?Peyton:If I were stranded on a deserted island, I could not live without my bedtime companions (my stuffed animals), my family, and good books to read while I waited to be rescued!

Tiffany: What is your most prized possession?

Peyton:My most prized possessions are my NAM crown and sash!

Tiffany:How would your friends describe you?

Peyton: If my friends were asked to describe me, they would say that I am really silly! They would say that I love to make up games for us to play where we all just end up laughing until our stomachs hurt.

Tiffany:How are you making a difference in your community?

Peyton:I am working really hard for my favorite charity Book Worm Angels. Book Worms Angels provides books to underprivileged classrooms. So far, I have collected almost 2,000 books! I am also hosting an event on February 12 with Barnes and Noble for Book Worm Angels. Barnes and Noble will give a portion of the proceeds to Book Worm Angels! I am sooo excited!

Tiffany: If you could go back in time and be at any historical event what would it be?

If I could go back in time and be at any historical event, I would go back to when Pocahontas met John Smith. I would love to see how they began to communicate.

Tiffany:If you could go back in time and meet one person, who would it be and why?

Peyton: If I could go back in time and meet one person, I would want to meet Pocahontas. I would want to meet her because she changed the world! She helped the Native Americans communicate with the people from England. She was peaceful and trusting and I think she could offer some great advice to girls all over the world.

Tiffany:If you could be famous for something, what would you want to be famous for?

Peyton:If I could be famous for something, I would want to be famous for writing awesome children’s books! I love to write and I want people to line up for my books on the night before they come out like they do for authors like JK Rowling!

Tiffany:What is your favorite book? And why?

Peyton:My favorite book is The Diary of Wimpy Kid. I think it is so funny! I have not ever read a book like that that makes me laugh out loud the way it did.

Tiffany:Where is your favorite place to shop?

Peyton: My favorite place to shop is at Von Maur. It is a department store near us where I can always find something I love! From shoes to dresses, jeans to pajamas, they have everything and it is all really cute.

Tiffany:Who is the most influential person in the world now?

Peyton: I think the most influential person in the world right now is Barak Obama. He is the first African American president of our country and he is really cool! I just saw him on the news singing a song at the end of one of his speeches!

Tiffany:Who or what inspires you most?

Peyton: One of my sister queens, Kristen, inspires me the most. She is incredibly smart, so sweet, and absolutely beautiful! She will drop everything when she comes home from college to have lunch or dinner with me. I want to be just like her when I am her age.

Tiffany:What have you learned about yourself since competing in pageants?

Peyton: Since I have been competing in pageants, I have learned that once I am on stage, all of my butterflies go away. I would always panic right before going on stage, feeling like I would forget everything. But now, I just go on stage, butterflies and all, and do my absolute best!

Tiffany: What advice do you have for future NAM girls?

Peyton: I would tell any girl who finds herself in my shoes to go for it! I have had an amazing time and have gotten to do things that I never thought I would get to do! Be yourself, be confident in yourself and have lots of fun! We went to California knowing that it was going to be a great family vacation and boy was it!

Tiffany: What do you plan to do with your title this year?

Peyton: I plan to do as much as I possibly can! I want to do so much for Book Worm Angels. I want to inspire other young girls to be confident young women! I want to travel. I want to meet a lot of people. And I want to make it the best possible year ever!

Tiffany:Tell me about yourself.

Peyton: I am a nine year old fourth grader. I love to dance and play sports, and to write and read. Most of all, I love to participate in pageants! Being on stage is so much fun and you get to meet lots of new friends. I have two teenage brothers who are pretty cool and a black lab dog, named Chase. My favorite school subject is Reading. I started playing the Viola this year and I absolutely love it!!

Shivali Patel, North Carolina Jr. Teen Queen volunteers at the Methodist Home for Children.

Shivali Patel , the National American Miss North Carolina Junior Teen volunteers at the Methodist Home for Children (MHC). They were thrilled that Shivali wanted to support theirprogram in several different ways. She did her research about their needs and she made a commitment to raise money, raise awareness and contribute in-kind items to MHC. She is an awesome young lady!

Shivali’s first goal was to support MHC’s 1K for 1Kid program by raising money to support a child in care for one year. She started her project in July and hit the ground running! She not only surpassed her goal but helped raise nearly $2,000 to support two children in MHC’s care. Her commitment to get out in the community and ask for donations and gifts is amazing! Shivali has put in more than 120 hours, going door to door, business to business asking for support to reach her goal. She didn’t take no for an answer and received gifts from $1.00 to $100.00. They, MHC, were most impressed when she even got the Mayor in Raleigh, NC to support her efforts!
In addition to raising money for their ministry, she asked fellow contestants to collect stuffed animals for our underserved children at their preschool. Shivali delivered big garbage bags full of stuffed animals to the kids at the center one day. She also used extra funds raised to purchase hygiene items and school supplies for our older kids – something she felt passionate about since teens in foster care are often forgotten about.
Shivali has an incredible philanthropic spirit! Her enthusiasm for volunteering and follow through on her commitment is admirable! MHC is proud of her efforts and of the positive way she approached her service to MHC. There are few youth in the community who truly stand out like Shivali. Her determination and drive will serve her well in the future. Her outstanding volunteer service to Methodist Home for Children is greatly appreciated.

Tiffany: How did you get involved in National American Miss?
Regan: I got involved in NAM when I was 5 years old. I received a letter in the mail and I thought it would be fun so my mom entered me into the Ohio state pageant and I placed top 5 my first year. I then came back my second year and won Ohio Princess. YAH!!! I then went on to win NAM Ohio Jr. Pre-Teen and then Pre-Teen and now National American Miss Pre-Teen. This is the only pageant I do! I love NAM and I believe in what it stands for!

Tiffany: How did you prepare for the National Pageant?
Regan: Practice, Practice, Practice! I would say my introduction once a day from the day of my state pageant until nationals so that way I had practiced it so many times. I would also have my Mom and others to ask me all kinds of questions to help me feel confident in my answers for interview. I took advice from those around me who really had a lot of experience in pageantry.
Tiffany: What is the best advice you have ever received?
Regan:To always be yourself and surround yourself with the type of people or friends that you want to be like.

Tiffany:What quote , motto or scripture best describes you?
Regan:My favorite Bible Verse is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” My favorite quote is one from an unknown author and it says that “A sister is God’s way of showing you he doesn’t want you to walk alone.” I love this because I have 2 younger sisters and they are the most important things in my life. I love them so much!

Tiffany:What are your plans for the future?
Regan: My future plans right now is to become a neonatal nurse because I love babies and helping others. I think this will be a perfect fit for me.
Tiffany:What activities are you involved in?
Regan: I am currently involved with a competitive cheer team, the Gem City Jags. I also cheer for my school, Troy Christian High School.

Tiffany:What do you like to do for fun?
Regan: For fun I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family.

Tiffany:What is one item you can’t live without?
Regan: One item I couldn’t live without would be my cell phone because that is the main way I communicate with my friends outside of school.

Tiffany:Who is your role model?
Regan:My role model is a fellow student of mine named Robbie Dickerson. Robbie has had 4 open heart surgeries since he was a baby and he is a great example of showing faith in God. He never is without a smile on his face and he is the best role model I can think of. He makes me realize that you can overcome anything with a positive attitude.

Tiffany:What is your favorite TV show?
Regan: My favorite TV show is The Next Great Baker because I love being able to watch them make all the fancy cakes…I wish I could do that!:)

Tiffany:What is the biggest misconception about your generation?
Regan: I think the biggest misconception with my generation is thinking that teenagers don’t appreciate anything. My friends and classmates really work hard at helping others and we appreciate so much what our teachers, parents, and family do for us.

Tiffany:What is your most embarrassing moment?
Regan: My most embarrassing moment was one day at school during recess, my friend was kidding around with me and went to pull my pants and the gauchos I had on were loose at the waist and when she tugged on my pants they fell to my ankles! I thought I was going to die. Luckily, I had a long shirt on so no one saw anything!

Tiffany:If you had three wishes what would you wish for?
Regan: If I had three wishes I would wish for health, happiness, and to be a little bit taller J

Tiffany:If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?
Regan:If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go to the Bahamas. My family and I vacationed there a couple of years ago and we had such a great time! I love the water, the dolphins and the sun!

Tiffany:What is your definition of a NAM girl?
Regan:NAM girl is a girl who is confident, friendly, positive, and a good role model.

Tiffany: If you could be on the cover of any Magazine what would it be?
Regan: I would want to be on the cover of Pageantry magazine as the new Miss America!

Tiffany: If you were stranded on a deserted island what three things could you not live with out?
Regan: I could not live without water, food, and my cell phoneJ.

Tiffany:What is your most prized possession?
Regan: My most prized possession right now is my Kindle Fire because I love to read and I have been traveling a lot so it works our great.

Tiffany:How would your friends describe you?
Regan: My friends would say that I am very loyal and honest. They would also say that I am trustworthy and will help them out in anyway possible.

Tiffany: How are you making a difference in your community?
Regan: I do a lot of community service such as working with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation during their Walk for the Cure, I went to West Virginia for a week long mission trip to help out kids within communities in need with my school. I also have made blankets for the homeless, donated items for the local women’s shelter, volunteered at my local library, assisted living facilities, and the food pantry.

Tiffany:What is your favorite childhood memory?
Regan: My favorite childhood memory is when my all of my family on my dad’s side went to Florida together. We all stayed in a beach house and celebrated my grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary. This is so special to me because I lost my grandfather this summer and that trip is a great memory of him.

Tiffany:If you could go back in time and be at any historical event what would it be?
Regan: I love the movie, The Help. It is hard for me to imagine that people were treated so differently just because of their color. I would have liked to have been there when everyone got go to the same school regardless of your color.

Tiffany:If you could go back in time and meet one person, who would it be and why?
Regan: If I could go back in time I would go back and meet my great- grandma Ruby. My mom talks about her and I think it would be neat to have been able to have known both of my great grandmothers.

Tiffany:If you could be famous for something, what would you want to be famous for?
Regan: I would want to be famous for helping others. I feel like that is the most important thing you can do in life.

Tiffany:What is your favorite book? And why?
Regan: My favorite book is the Hunger Games series because the genre of the books are a mystery but they are also a love story and I enjoy reading both of those type of books.

Tiffany:Where is your favorite place to shop?
Regan: My favorite place to shop is at Abercrombie, Areopostal, or Hollister.

Tiffany:Who is the most influential person in the world now?
Regan: I would want to say Gabrielle Gifford because she has shown such an amazing strength in her recovery.

Tiffany:Who or what inspires you most?
Regan:God inspires me most because He is one of the biggest influences in my life.

Tiffany:What have you learned about yourself since competing in pageants?
Regan: I have learned that with determination you can reach your dreams. This year was my third year competing at Nationals. The first two times as Princess and Jr. Pre-Teen, I did not place in the top 10 at Nationals. But, I did not give up. I came back each time with the determination and this was my year to not only make top 10 but take home the title.

Tiffany:What is your definition of success ?
Regan:Success to me is setting goals for yourself and reaching those goals that are most important to YOU!

Tiffany:What advice do you have for future NAM girls?
Regan: My advice would be to be yourself no matter what. Also to have confidence in yourself. You are beautiful and there is only one you!

Tiffany:What do you plan to do with your title this year?
Regan:Enjoy every minute of it and to create memories with my sister queens that will last a life time.

Tiffany:Tell me about yourself.
Regan: I am a 13 year old girl from Troy, Ohio. I go to a Christian school called Troy Christian. I am in the 7th grade this year and I love it!:) I have two younger sisters, Riley and Ryann, who mean the world to me. I have 2 dogs, but I am getting a new puppy soon! I am a flyer for my competitive cheer squad. I love to stay up late and watch my favorite shows on TLC and I am small for my age but I am full of love for my family, friends, and God.

Here’s How It Works…Once we receive your filled out resume, completed essays, and you have included your registration fee with your photograph, then we will call you to set up a phone interview. When the phone interview has been completed, then your entire entry will be placed in the hands of the selections committee. The selections committee will review the elements of your completed application and score each portion of the competition. Then, the new state queen will be awarded along with the four runner-ups.

The winner will be appointed the title of National American Miss for your state and will attend the National Pageant during Thanksgiving week in Anaheim, California at Disneyland to compete for the National American Miss Queen’s Title. The 4 Runners-Up will be given the opportunity to represent their state as a city queen and to attend the National Pageant to compete for the National All-American Miss Queen’s Title.

NAM Girls In The News...

Amanda Moreno, daughter of Al and Phyllis Moreno of Conyers, recently earned the National Title for National American Miss for the All-American Miss age division. She was chosen among hundreds of candidates from all across the United States on the basis of their academic status, poise and personality on stage, poise and personality in an interview, communication skills and community service.
Moreno, a Rockdale County High School and Rockdale Career Academy graduate, will be traveling across the country this summer representing the National American Miss Pageant Program. She will also receive an all expense paid trip to the National Pageant to be held in Anaheim California during Thanksgiving week 2012 to crown her successor. While in California, she will receive a special day in Disneyland for two and a famous tour of Hollywood.
Moreno, 19, is a first year business student at Georgia State University and hopes to eventually become a corporate executive for the Walt Disney Company. She continues to mentor for the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta and is the founder of the True Beauty Movement, a program to inspires girls to create their own definition of beauty and develop a positive self image. This program has touched over 1,300 girls nationwide through the school integration program, photo collage, and the essay contest.
The National American Miss Pageants are dedicated to celebrating America and encouraging future leaders. Each year, the pageant awards thousands in scholarships and prizes to recognize and assist the development of young women nationwide. Yesterday the National American Miss Staff took a day off from the National Office to volunteer at the Houston Food Bank. We had a great time volunteering and giving back to our community. The Houston Food Bank is on of the leading organizations to fight hunger. It was so rewarding to make a difference. Every time I volunteer I remember that the true blessing is on the giver, not the recipient.

The Houston Food Bank Stats:

• 70 million pounds distributed last year
• 137,000 different people fed each week
• 865,000 different people fed each year
• nearly 500 hunger relief agencies in 18 southeast Texas
   counties:
      o Church food pantries
      o Homeless shelters
      o Safe havens for the battered and abused
      o Nutrition sites for children and the elderly
• More than 259,000 volunteer hours contributed annually

YOU Can Make a Difference for a NAM Girl....

Ashley Marie MacDonald competed in NAM from 2004-2009. Through her years with NAM she won the Ohio State Teen Cover Girl title in 2006 and went on to Nationals to win the National Cover Girl title. She was also a city queen (Miss Cincinnati) in 2009 competing at Nationals with city queen (Miss Worcester) Cara Haig that fall. This story isn’t about Nationals; it’s about what happened after Nationals.

In January 2011, Ashley went to school and work like any normal day. But that night at work, during a stock check Ashley had an accident. A 72 inch unassembled bookcase had fallen on her foot. She informed the manager of the accident but tried to walk it off. Within a half hour, her foot was so swollen it was bursting out of her shoe and was bruising. A report was filed and Ashley was on her way to the Emergency Room.

There, doctors x-rayed her foot and thought it was a bone chip fracture. They fiber-glassed her foot into a boot and sent her home with instructions to follow up with Mercy Health Solutions in 2 weeks.

During the follow up, the doctor there confirmed to her that the x-rays appeared to show a bone chip fracture and to treat it as such, and to follow up with them again in 2 weeks.

2 weeks later, Ashley came back, but to a different doctor. This doctor told her there was nothing wrong with her at all. All the while, Ashley is feeling excruciating pain and was noticing changes in her foot. An approval to see an orthopedic specialist had still not come in from Workman’s Compensation. At this point she was frustrated and made the appointment anyway. If her foot was indeed broken, she was already halfway through the healing process with it being now 4 weeks after the initial injury.

Upon seeing her orthopedic, all the signs were clear and the xrays clearly showed no break. In fact, Dr. Devine had seen this before but needed an MRI for proof. When that approval came in, the test clearly showed what Dr. Devine had suspected; Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. (RSD)

The diagnosis devastated her. She even wanted to drop out of her upcoming National Pageant in St. Louis.

“It took me a few months, but I finally came to realize why this had to happen to me. I am a firm believer in that everything happens for a reason and God never gives you anything you cannot handle. I was dealt this card to help others with it. I even changed my major from pharmacology to physical therapy so that I can help someone else with this disorder. I am also working so hard to create more awareness for the RSD disorder.” –Ashley Marie

RSD/CRPS is considered a rare nerve disorder that affects anywhere from 200,000-1.2 million Americans. It develops after any injury or any medical procedure that the body would see as traumatic. An injury that would seem as simple as a sprain can result in an incurable nerve disorder that is often unrecognized and untreated.

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy that is now also referred to as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome can be prevented all together. By taking Vitamin C immediately following an injury and over the course of 50 days, the chances of one developing this disorder reduces by 76%. That is incredible for a disorder that appears after 5% of all injuries.

There is no cure for RSD. The disorder is treated the best it can be. Through medications, physical therapy, sympathetic nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulation, tens units, hyperbaric oxygen chambers, and ketamine infusions, patients learn to live their life in pain. But it never had to be this way.

Ashley isn’t taking this diagnosis lying down and has now teamed up with Cara who also now suffers from this disorder. She decided to take a stand against this disorder that has changed their lives. Ashley has started a petition on change.org to make it mandatory for hospitals, outpatients, urgent cares, etc to provide vitamin c and inform the patients of the possibility of this disorder developing. Just as flu shots are given in hospitals to prevent the spread of the virus, the precautions should be made to prevent a nerve disorder from developing. Too many people are unaware of the disorder and it’s time to make it known and prevent one more person from receiving this debilitating and incurable diagnosis.

In addition to the petition, Ashley and Cara have been asking those that they know to write to Ellen Degeneres. They are in great hopes that Ellen will take notice and back their efforts, promote the awareness, and the petition. In the past, Ellen has done many things to promote awareness for other efforts and they are praying for her help.

Brianna Haggerty Cannon:( 2005-2006 National American Miss) Being a queen isn't about you. It's about representing something much bigger than you, so you have to be relatable. A queen has to be able to talk to anyone about anything and have a likable personality. Thus, it is important for those qualities to translate in your personal introduction and interview.

Sarah Odell: Smile like you already won, do your best, trust God, and dont give up!

Ravayna Tracey:(2002-2003 National American Miss Teen) positive pageantry is a must!
if you compete only for a crown and title, the chances are good that you will wind up disappointed. but if you compete with a positive attitude, looking to gain self confidence, new friends, and experience, you will always be a winner!

Sherelle Peterson: You don't have to go into debt to be in pageants, start buying used pageant wear!! I love saving money!

“I was a little apprehensive at first,” Dawn says of the day Emily got an invitation to apply to the National American Miss Pageant. “But I had participated in a Miss Teen USA pageant at 16. So I couldn’t deny her.”
Last year, Emily participated and had so much fun she decided to do it again this year. This time, she won Miss Illinois for her age division. She goes on to compete in the national competition in November.
What did you say (and what did you think) when she first proposed the idea?
I thought the experience would help her to grow in a positive way.
National American Miss is very age-appropriate. They discourage makeup, jewelry and polished nails. They focus more on their natural beauty and who they are. This pageant is more about inner beauty, poise, self-confidence and their ability to communicate.
Did you worry that pageants may somehow change her, make her too concerned with appearances?
I guess there is always a concern that with all the attention a young person gets in a situation like this, it could cause her to become more caught up with her appearance, but in this case it actually taught my daughter that she is beautiful even without all the makeup and things.
That natural beauty comes from within a person.
How is she different from the girls she competes against?
Emily is a typical 13-year-old in many ways. She does however, possess an inner beauty and confidence that I cannot easily explain. The most important things to her are God and friends and family.
What advice did you give her?I told her to do her best. Just before leaving for the pageant, I heard a thought for the day on my favorite radio station. The thought for the day was “Be the change you want to see in the world.” This is a famous quote by Gandhi. I personally had never heard it before that morning. I told Emily, and she took this thought with her to the pageant. On our drive up to Chicago, we stopped at her aunt’s house, who we had not seen for a while. Emily walked in the house and went over to admire some pottery that her aunt had made, and as she stared down at the pottery, to her disbelief, etched in the pottery were the words, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Emily’s shocked and surprised look prompted her aunt to give her the piece of pottery to take with her to the pageant.
Is it hard to watch her lose or to think about the fact that she may lose?
Every experience in life shapes us and molds us into who we become. Even if she had lost the pageant, I believe she would have become a stronger and better person for the experience.
What do you like about the pageants?
I like that they encourage the girls to become leaders, and to serve others by getting involved in their community. They also put more emphasis on inner beauty instead of outward appearance, helping them to like themselves for who they are.
Is there anything you don’t like?
Our experience was a good one. I do have to admit, it can be stressful at times. If you are trying to do everything with excellence and encouraging your child to do her best, this is what can create stress. The demands of family, school and extracurricular activities would create stress in any situation. This is where faith helps.

Cassandra Salas ~ the 2011 NAMiss Nebraska Pre-Teen has been busy volunteering and what better way to do it then for the animals. Each year Cassandra volunteers for the Nebraska Humane Society by making treats and blankets for the animals and their adoption families. This year she was also asked to take part in the Walk for the Animals which raised $103,973. She served food to hungry walkers and helped out at the different adoption booths. Pam Weiss (Director of the NE Humane Society) told Cassandra how nice it was to see her back each year.

What does “true beauty” mean to me? True beauty can mean so many different things. Being beautiful is so much more than what meets the eye. So many people don’t see this. Being beautiful is not always based on the clothes you wear or the amount of makeup you put on before you start your day. It is not the style of clothing you can afford or the cost of the necklace around your neck.

Thankfully, for me, being beautiful is SO much more than any of these things. Being beautiful is showing unconditional love to the ones who mean the most to you in life. It is doing what in your heart you feel is right even when the rest of the world may be doing the total opposite. To me the most beautiful and true thing you could ever do in your life is accept Jesus Christ into your heart and have faith that he will help you conquer all of life’s journeys. Because without your Lord and savior what is possible in this life? In my opinion the answer is NOTHING! He makes life so much more beautiful and when I look in the mirror every day I see him and thank him for all of the beautiful opportunities he has blessed me with.

Through pageantry I never imagined how many truly beautiful friends I would make. Many girls who are not only beyond beautiful on the outside, but on the inside as well. For every new friend I meet through beauty pageants I know that is why God placed this hobby in my life. Pageants are not all about the glitz and glam. They are not all about winning prizes or a beautiful crown. They are about what you do with the crown to make a difference in the life of others in your community and around the world. We are role models for younger children and are expected to set an outstanding example for these young girls and boys to live by!

For everyone in this world there is something beautiful in you. It is up to you to find out just what that may be. I feel that the most beautiful thing about me is my loving heart and being a great friend to others. Sometimes that is all a person really needs in life is a true friend. I feel so lucky to not only be beautiful on the outside but to also have such true beauty on the inside.

According to Dictionary.com, the definition of “True” is the following three statements:

1. Being in accordance with the actual state or conditions; conforming to reality or fact; not false.

2. Real; genuine; authentic.

3. Sincere; not deceitful.

Also, the definition of “Beauty” according to Dictionary.com is:

1. The quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest).

So, to put together these words, logically, “True Beauty” means a “genuine ‘like’ person’s exterior qualities.” Is that all it’s really about? People are judging others on whether or not they are beautiful… and it’s all a matter of opinion. Not everyone likes the same things and no two people are identical. So, who are we to judge whether or not someone is beautiful. We’re all different, but we’re all still the same. I know that’s a contradiction in itself, but we look at others on the exterior and we’re all original; however, sometimes you have to go deeper than that to find “true beauty”.

So, what is “true beauty” in the non-logical and completely opinionated definition? My definition: a person who has spirit, who can be who they really are without worry; someone who’s dedicated, honest, supportive, helpful, caring, and, most of all, unique. They have to be themselves. Flaws and everything.

No one can be their own person without being unique, and that’s what every person with true beauty is. There’s no such thing as normal. Every person that I meet is trying to find themselves. They’re searching, but they’re searching for the wrong thing. They’re searching for a sense of “normalcy” when there’s no such thing! No one’s normal and that’s what makes a person unique without them even knowing. Nevertheless, the person that realizes this uniqueness in everyone, including themselves, is the one with true beauty. No amount of make-up can make that.

We all have true beauty somewhere inside us. It’s our personality. Who we are as a person is what people should be judging us as, if at all. Our outer beauty is a plus, but to be truly beautiful is to have an even greater inner beauty. Writing this reminds me of the show True Beauty with Tyra Banks. They judged the person’s outer beauty while judging their inner beauty without the contestants knowing. The show helped people realize that it’s not all about what you look like, but it’s also how you act that makes you a beautiful person.

Children, teenagers, even adults need to remember that not everything is based on how you look. If everyone knew they were being judged on their true inner beauty before their outer beauty, I’m almost certain that everyone would act a little nicer and smile a little brighter every day. That’s what everyone needs. That’s what true beauty really is.

What is true beauty? For the longest time I thought that true beauty was one’s outward appearance. I thought it was seen on those who grace the cover of magazines: no flaws, no imperfections…just absolutely PERFECT. But I’m 10 years old! So to me this just seemed right.

When I became accepted as a state finalist in NAM’s Oklahoma Pre-teen division my dad and step-mom started harping a lot about true beauty and how I appeared to have none. We had a lot of talks about exactly what true beauty is and how to achieve it. After several months of this I think I finally have it figured out.

To me, true beauty is inside of you. It is one’s inner beauty. So what’s inner beauty? It’s just true beauty but basically tells you where that true beauty is…inside of you.

True beauty is the qualities one shows to those around them: caring, concern, compassion, and friendliness. Having these qualities can make anyone a true beauty.

I know how busy I have become since becoming a part of the NAM family on top of my other activities, but if I can slow down enough to exhibit such qualities then everyone can. All it takes is a willingness to step up and help those less fortunate even if scared, taking a split second to smile and say “hello” to all in your path, going out of your way to comfort those needing comforting. All of this shows one’s true beauty.

National American Miss Oregon Pre-Teen is Using Her Title to Bring Awareness for Animal Protection!

She loves mountain gorillas and recently raised over $1000 to bring awareness and shed light on gorilla conservation. Helping her shed that light might just be the sparkling crown and sash she wears as Miss Oregon Pre Teen.

At age 11, Madeline Monlux who won her title in May has been working diligently to raise money for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, an organization close to Madeline’s heart, as she would like to become a primatologist and follow in the footsteps of her idol, the late Dian Fossey.

No stranger to volunteering, Madeline has given her time every weekend since June to a variety of charitable events and organizations. As Miss Oregon Pre Teen, Madeline has traveled throughout the state as an ambassador for Oregon, as well as speaking about her passion, the mountain gorillas.

Madeline came up with an idea to sell stuffed gorillas complete with special certificates, with all of the proceeds benefiting the Fossey fund. She partnered with the Fossey fund and TY (the beanie baby company) and the results were astonishing. Madeline named each gorilla individually after African namesakes meaning love, peace and other positive messages. She then tied a special bow on each gorilla and then it was time to get to work selling the gorillas.

“People wanted to buy the gorillas before they were even available”, says Monlux referring to an announcement made on social media site, Facebook.

“My friends and family, pageant people and people from all over supported this project. I have sold almost 100 gorillas and raised over $1000 for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund,” exclaims a proud Monlux.

In early October, Madeline has been invited as a special guest to the Dian Fossey Circle Luncheon in New York, where she will have the opportunity to meet with her favorite actress, Sigourney Weaver, who portrayed Dian Fossey in the film, “Gorillas in the Mist”, talk with primatologists from Africa who work with the mountain gorillas and present a check to the organization’s CEO. A dream come true for a young woman who simply wants to help protect her gorilla friends.

National American Miss New York Teen Farewell Letter and Photos:

It feels like yesterday when I heard my name called as the new National American Miss New York Teen. It was a moment I worked toward for eight years and it was worth the wait. The moment I was crowned I knew it was my turn to be a role model because for the rest of the year all eyes would be on me.

Throughout my year I enjoyed participating in events such as the Queens Corner Expo, marching in the Eastchester St. Patrick's Day Parade, attending the Earth Day "Be the E" fair and walking the red carpet before a Neiman Marcus fashion show; distributing cards on behalf of Love Letters at the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital, volunteering at many charity walks such as: Multiple Sclerosis, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Lupus, AIDS, Autism Speaks, and the Kids Walk for Kids with Cancer; emceeing the Miss Next Level Youth and Miss Earth Northeastern pageants, assisting at NAM open calls and call backs and traveling to the New Jersey and Upstate New York pageants as visiting royalty.

In November, I attended Nationals in California, where I had one of the best weeks of my life. The week was filled with fun opportunities including the 70's party, a day in Disneyland, touring the streets of Hollywood, Thanksgiving dinner, and a lot of rehearsals. I met so many wonderful girls from across the country, who I know will continue to accomplish great things in their futures. To my teen queens: we really were an outstanding group of leaders. We always joke around saying the class of 2010 was the best of the best but in my heart we truly were, I love all of you girls.

To my sister queens: Faith J, you have such a big heart and I will miss your hugs dearly. Faith P, you have to be one of the most beautiful little girls I have ever met inside and out. You're so special to me and always have the ability to make me smile. Selena, winning together was the icing on the cake to the end of our pageant weekend last year, we always said we were sisters but NAM truly brought us even closer together. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for us. Paige, your beautiful face and shinning personally always brightens my day, I will remember our long talks that always led into laughter. Alyson, I couldn't have asked for a better big sister. Thank you for always being there for me, we have made some incredible memories this year from being attached at the hip in Disneyland to our adventure in Tarrytown. Abisola, i'm so happy we got to spend our year together. Thank you for all of your endless support and your awesome pep talks, but most importantly always being able to make me laugh. I love you all so much and although our reigns may be coming to an end we will always carry crowns in our hearts and be sisters forever.

I've had so many people help me get to where I am today. I can't thank you all enough. Miss Gigi, you gave me the confidence necessary to achieve all of my dreams and definitely taught me how to strut my stuff while I'm making them come true. Debbie and Sasha, you two are an awesome dynamic duo. You both have seen me grow up throughout the years and know how to truly make me shine every time. Rene, you're always there to listen to me, lend a helping hand, and put me in my place whenever I get out of hand. Taccara, you truly made me into a pro, I love our shopping trips and will never (and I mean never) forget our memories from Nationals. Our long talks in the middle of the night helped me get through the week. My second pageant mom, Debra, thank you for always being there for me when I need someone to talk to, lace up my dress, or put a bobby pin in my hair. Thank you for helping me plan all our fun events this year. To my best friend, Claudette, words can not describe how thankful I am to NAM for bringing you into my life during our competition in 2005, you were such an essential part to not only winning the state title but to making my year a successful one. You were always there for me no matter what time of day with your inspirational words to lift me up and help me make all of my decisions. To my other half, Lisa, we also met at that NAM competition in 2005 and have been inseparable ever since. You are an amazing person and are always there for me; thank you for helping me get through the tough times and never letting me quit something I have started. Most importantly mom, thank you for all of your love and support. I still remember the day I was crowned, looking out into the audience and seeing you jumping up and down crying. This journey was a long one but I couldn't have asked for anyone better to always be by my side. I love you so much! To the rest of my family, friends, and supporters: thank you for always pushing me to be my best and supporting me in all of my dreams, you all mean the world to me.

Special thank you to the Mayes for running an amazing pageant production, that makes me want to return year after year. Kathleen, I am truly grateful for your help at the national pageant, you always made sure I looked my best. Steve, I enjoyed getting to know you better during our chats at the open calls. You two are the best state directors I could ask for. LaKishia, thank you for always being there to answer my questions and help me at the state pageants. Tiffany, I had an awesome time with you at the open calls and call backs and treasure your honesty and sassiness. I love the whole NAM staff and am honored to be part of the exclusive sorority we like to refer to as the NAMily.

To all the contestants, I wish you all the best of luck and remember you are all beautiful and you don't need a crown to define who you are. After the pageant is over I encourage you all to take the skills you have learned over pageant weekend to grow as a person and chase all of your dreams because anything is possible when you believe in yourself. To my successor, get ready for the time of your life. When the crown hits your head the journey has only begun. The title of National American Miss New York Teen is a job first and an honor second, always remember that. Make sure you put your crown and banner to good use, make a difference in the world, and be the role model you are meant to be.

NAM Girls in the News....

Pearland resident Kelsee Gosbee was honored as Fourth Place Winner in the Junior Preteen category at the American Miss Pageant held June 25 at Houston’s Galleria Intercontinental Hotel. She was also awarded the title of “Top Model” from a group of 113 contestants.
Gosbee will now move on to compete in the National American Miss Pageant to be held Nov. 18-26 in Hollywood Calif.
According to officials, contestants in American Miss Pageants are judged in a number of categories including personal introduction, formal wear poise and appearance and communications skills in an interview.
Pageant judges also scored contestants for their level of community involvement.
Gosbee’s service activites included working with children as a Promisland volunteer at New Hope Church. She also worked as a volunteer for Eagle's Lift Ministries.
Currently, she is committed to working as a Second Helping volunteer for Second Baptist Church and is planning to work as a volunteer at the Susan G. Komen Run in October.
The 10-year-old Silverlake resident is a fifth grader at Rogers Middle School. She is the daughter of Wayne and Amiee Gosbee.
The state-level competition was Gosbee’s first pageant experience.

Hi Girls,

I’m so excited to meet each and every one of you and share with you my incredible year!!

After being crowned your 2010 National American Miss Junior Pre Teen, I was off to Nationals!! We spent a magical day at Disneyland, Toured Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica. I established new friendships that will last me a lifetime.

In January 2011, I was invited to attend the Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas and join the National Queens and State Queens for a NAM photo shoot. It was an experience that I will never forget!!

During my reign, I made countless appearances at various events. Raised funds at the AIDS walk, Making Strides for Breast Cancer and for my schools arts program. I found my cultural roots and participated at the Puerto Rican Day Parade and saluted our heroes at the Veterans Day Parade.

We’ll have lots of fun this pageant weekend. Even though I’m going to crown one special girl this weekend, always remember that we are ALL special and you should be very proud of yourself. Follow your dreams and never give up.

I would like to thank Steve and Kathleen Mayes and the entire NAM staff - This organization truly inspires young women to find their best selves. I appreciate all of the support you have given to me. Also would like to thank my family, sponsors and friends who helped me reach where I am today.

WOW! Has it been a year already? I can’t believe that I was standing on stage in Nashville hand in hand with Miss New Hampshire waiting for my dreams to take off! This incredible year has been filled with numerous appearances, modeling opportunities, volunteer service, and FUN! Words cannot describe the amazing people I met and places I visited throughout my reign.

My year as Miss New Jersey 2010 has been rewarding and spectacular to say the least. I have worked closely with the American Heart Association by assisting at their Annual Have a Heart Ball and collecting signatures to help pass the Child
Obesity Act. In addition I helped to build a house in Newark, NJ with the Habitat for Humanity Organization. Who knew a pageant girl could kick off her heels and learn how to use a power table saw! Some of my additional volunteer activities included organizing a fashion show to collect dresses for underprivileged children called Becca’s Closet, judging the Next Level Youth Pageant, attending National IHOP Day for the Children’s Miracle Network, and volunteering at the Wellness Carnival for the Special Olympics.

Of course my reign extended far beyond community service! I was able to get together with my town mayor and attend numerous pageants as visiting royalty. In addition, I met Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan! I was even able to grace the pages of Supermodels Unlimited Magazine and walk in a charity fashion show in Charlotte, North Carolina.

I know in the end the crown may rust and the sash may fade, but the friendships and memories made will last a lifetime! With the crown I was able to inspire and lead the youth of my great state of New Jersey and become a spokeswoman for young girls everywhere! My National American Miss journey has been remarkable and I thank everyone for making my year as Miss New Jersey Teen 2010-2011 so special!

Best of luck to the 2011 contestants! You all made it here for a reason…because you are simple the best! Although only one girl will walk away with the crown, know that just by entering you have already shown your confidence and that you walk away a winner!

Has it already been a year?!? Its seems like just yesterday I herd the emcee call my name as the 2010 National American Miss New Jersey Jr.Teen. It has been such an honor to represent my state, and the opportunity was truly a blessing.

I’ve done so many amazing things during my reign, but the ultimate experience was the National Pageant in Anaheim California! I met so many extraordinary girls and had the time of my life with all my sister queens. I was so honored to have placed 3rd runner up in the National Photogenic competition, 4th runner up in Scrapbook, and win National Casual Wear Modeling and Most Promising Model! However, the highlight was placing 1st runner up For the title of National American Miss Jr.Teen!!

There are so many wonderful people I would like to thank. To my Mom and Dad, I don’t know how I would do it with out you, thank you so much for your unconditional love and support you truly are the best! Steve and Kathleen Mayes thank you so much for creating such a wonderful organization. National American Miss will always hold such a special place in my heart. To the rest of the NAM staff especially Tiffany, Patrice, and Lakisha I love you three so much, and thank you for always being so kind to me. To the Tortoricis, Skorankos, Monellos, and Hoffmans: we have all grown so close and I know our family friendships will continue to strive for a very long time. Mellissa, Kayla, Cielo, and Andrea we truly are sisters, love you girls! Finally to Taccara, where do I even begin, not only are you actually considered part of the family, but you really are my best friend. Thank you so much for the endless hours you put in to getting me ready for nationals.

To my successor, get ready for one of the best years of your life. Don’t take a second for granted because at the blink of an eye it will all be over.

Take a Look at the 2010 National American Miss New Jersey PreTeen!!!

I’ll never forget the moment when I heard my name called. At first I cried in disbelief but reality quickly set in and I couldn’t stop smiling. It was a dream come true! This year went by real fast!

My sister queens and I started our reign by representing National American Miss in the Labor Day Parade. During my reign I volunteered for many organizations. I participated in the Miracle Walk to help premature babies. I also volunteered at the Light the Night Walk and the Susan G. Komen Organization. I was able to get every student in my school to donate to the Susan G Komen Organization, I raised over $3,000.00.

In November I was off to Nationals!! I had a blast! I loved Disneyland and sightseeing in Hollywood with my mom. I had an amazing time. Most importantly I met so many girls and their wonderful families. I was so excited for Nationals; I was crowned National Pre Teen Photogenic Winner and I placed 1^st runner up in Casual Wear and Most Promising Model.

National American Miss has taught me to be confident and to never give up on my dreams. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Mayes for creating an organization that helps girls to be confident and to believe in ourselves. Tiffany and LaKishia you inspire me. You are both beautiful inside and out. To my sister queens Melissa, Jeanine, Cielo and Andrea I will always love you! Thank you for being the best sister queens’ ever! To my family thank you for all your support and encouragement! I love you! To my successor, this is a dream of a life time. Make the most of your accomplishment!

It's has Been a Fantastic Year for The 2010 National American Miss New York Jr Teen

Hello 2011 Contestants and Families,

My reign as your 2010-2011 National American Miss New York Jr. Teen has been remarkable. It’s s amazing how a year has gone by so fast. I’m extremely honored and blessed to be involved in a pageant system where you truly become part of their family.

It has taken me a few years to accomplish my dream of representing New York State at Nationals. The best part of the year was sharing countless memories with my sister Faith Perez who was also crowned as your 2010 Miss New York Junior Pre Teen.

We are both so fortunate to make a difference in our communities while still creating memories together.

Nationals in Hollywood, California were a rewarding dream where I met a lot of amazing new friends. Disneyland was magical and walking the famous Hollywood streets and spending Thanksgiving with NAM was also a fun and warm family experience.

Following an exciting week at Nationals, I was involved in the Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk, Avon Breast Cancer Walk, Aids Walk, Puerto Rican Day Parade, and the Veterans Day Parade. I made numerous appearances at various state NAM pageants, as well as the Miss New York Pageant. I expanded my travel and attended the Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas for a National American Miss Photo shoot.

This weekend I look forward in meeting all of the Contestants and we’re going to have an amazing time getting to know each other.

My advice to all the Contestants is to never give up, work hard and always keep a positive attitude. As Eleanor Roosevelt said “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”
